Iron Chef cookware is produced using a new
proprietary casting technology that enables the production of lightweight,
thin-walled cast iron cookware. The technology involves a new process, a
special alloy and unique tooling to create an iron casting with less porosity
and more ductility. As a result, the casting is not as brittle as
convenient cast iron and be cast into thicknesses that are less than half as
thick. Each piece of Iron Chef cookware weights about half as much as its
traditional counterpart.
Iron Chef cookware has captured the key benefits of cast iron cookware - even
heat distribution, good temperature control and good heat retention without
excess, uncomfortable weight. And by using tempered cast glass lids, Iron
Chef cookware further keeps its weight under control without sacrifice in
performance or appearance..
Each piece of Iron Chef cookware has two coats of high-fired enamel on the
exterior, one coat of enamel plus Whitford's highly-durable premium QuanTanium
nonstick coating on the interior. To keep the weight down, all attachment
hardware is cast aluminum. And to remind us of the Iron Chef's Asian
origins, the generously sized handles are made from burnished bamboo.
